“How can we effectively change patient and professional behavior? Going beyond knowledge and skills to develop enhanced implementation interventions for action.”
Dr. Liz Glidewell
We know that interventions to support implementation have important but variable effects (e.g. audit (6-16%), education (6%) and computerized prompts (3-14%)). Typically such interventions are adapted because of prior experience without fully understanding how and why they work. There is scope to increase adoption and/or adherence to evidence-based practices. Psychological and Sociological theory offers a structured approach to identify why translation fails and an associated set of evidence-based techniques to change behavior.
This workshop will introduce you to these techniques and allow you to work with them to understand their potential to influence patients and health care professionals. We will work together to develop action plans that could be used in patient consultations or with teams of healthcare professionals.
